Visual and Mental Images of coastal New Zealand

On a comfortable bus heading to Fox Glacier....... Drizzling rain on the windows, fogging them with my breath...... watching the sheep, red deer, cows, goats and alpaca unable to find cover in this hard land..... astonished by 6 Harrier Hawks soaring on the thermals, winds buffeting trees, animals and our bus...... Crossing numerous un-named now swollen rivers, some with suspension bridges, some one lane, but we carry on down the winding road toward our destination......Stopping occasionally for bathroom and food breaks..... Vineyards with netting over the grapes to scare away the birds who deem them good to eat.... gold mine towns, now tourist destinations..... One of the roads reminds me of the old Storm King Hwy. (remember Betsy?)..... Raining in earnest now and the winds are gale force.... Stopping at a waterfall, (what, the rain cascading off the bus isn't enough?)and running to catch a photo..... I didn't come all this way to let a little rain stop me!... Drying out and finally arriving in Fox Glacier.... met by the proprietor who drove me around the corner..... The town is one block long! Gotta love the pumpkin soup and a green salad..... Welcome to the west coast.

Love,
Kerry
