The photos above are: The ever present cockatoo, The ANZAC parade to the Australian War Memorial, ANZAC parade to Parliament, Blundell's cottage, Carillion Tower in Lake Burley Griffin and stained glass inside the National Library.
WEll, it is another drippy day, but not my spirits! I left the Blue Mts. yesterday and rode by train past sheep, cattle and horse ranches. It is apparent that we are heading out into the country, or bush as they call it here. The rolling hills and mountains in the distance are a sight to see. It has been raining all day, so there are no photos. However, I did see kangaroos again and that was terrific. I arrived late in the afteroon and went to the B and B on the far side of town. After getting organized, I walked to the local shopping area in search for some kind of dinner, as I had only eaten lightly and was famished. What do my eyes spy? a VEGAN restaurant! It was delicious! I was in heaven.
This morning the day started out dry, cool and blue skies, so I thought a raincoat wasn't necessary. You know where this is headed, right, so I walked from one end of town along the canals, past cockatoos screeching. They are pests here as many birds are as well. I walked to the Australian War Memorial where there was a reflecting pool and many rooms and exhibits to honor the fallen men and women lost in battle. Quite moving.
Next I went down the ANZAC (Australian, New Zealand Army Corps) walkway to Lake Burley Griffin. This entire town was designed in the early 1900's by a husband and wife architectural team who designed it around the man made lake. it is quite stunning. I walked around the lake, no mean feat either, past the National Carillion, which is a landmark that rings a set of organs on the hour and shoots columns of water 450' into the air. Of course, but now it was raining pretty hard, so I don't think they needed to turn the columns of water on!
On to the National Library of Australia where there was a wonderful exhibit called "Handwritten". It was a series of books and manuscripts from 900-1800. They were written by scribes of the time and included famous historians, poets, writers as well as philosophers. Goethe, Einstein, Napoleon, Darwin and more. Even Brahms, Wagner, and Schubert's orginal muscial scores.
I may attempt to write more later today, but if not, I will tomorrow.
Love to all,
K
Again, the pictures are beautiful. I can't imagine how you are doing all of this walking; never mind the rain! You will get back here with muscles on your muscles! I hope I can be like you when I grow up! (LOL)- By the way, I had a thought, if it's not much trouble - I would love to see some of the restaurant menus.... if they have those paper kinds that you can keep... Would be interesting to see the different meal choices from place to place... Anyway, continue to have fun - it looks spectactular!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're having a great time. You're like the mailperson, neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, will stop you.
