Today's photos are: Dunedin Botanic Gardens and the rest are from the Tunnel Beach hike.
G'day everyone!
I got early, packed up and headed by cab as no public transportation went quite as far as I wanted to go. I walked over the "hills" and down to the beach. It took about 20 minutes. What wonderful vistas of the ocean and the rocks below! I saw the land bridge and of course, walked across! Then I continued down the cliffside thru a tunnel to the beach below. The monoliths are around 65-75' high. In one of the pictures, if you squint, you can see my red day pack with a pink hat at the base. I used it as a measure so you can see how tall they are, unfortunately, I had to get far away to see the top of the rocks! Oh well, it was a wonderful sight. But then I had to go BACK UP! Oy vey, what a trek. Took me twice as long, but I made it and, boy was I happy to see the taxi driver a few minutes later.
Next, I went to the Botanic Gardens which are lovely. Lot of flowers bursting forth, but it is the beginning of Fall here, so many of the flowers have been bloomed out a few weeks ago.
I ate a vegetarian cafe, mushroom soup (yumm!) and date scones (pronounced "scuns", walked up the hill, and made it just in time for the owners of the B and B to take me to the bus station to return to Queenstown. The bus arrived about 1 and 1/2 hours late, so it was a long day, but it was wonderful!!! Tomorrow, the Glaciers!!!
Love,
Kerry
