G'day friends and family,
As Steve drove us all over the Great Ocean Road yesterday, we all decided to take the train into the city for our last outing. We went and saw the Old State Library, which was enormous with it's domed top and white washed walls. Around the corner was the Royal Exhibition Center which was closed, but we stood there long enough and a security guard asked us what we wanted. I said that I just wanted to photograph the architecture, so he opened the door! I guess being nice does pay off!!
We saw the Parliament Building which included the Treasury. Again, the architecture is amazing! Lil wanted to rest, so I walked around the block to see the Aboriginal gallery of Dreaming. I had been looking forward to seeing some Native paintings. However, the guy had closed it about 4 years ago, so we just went inside and viewed the paintings that were the gallery now. Very expensive, so I passed.
We made our way to the Windsor Hotel, one of those boon town hotels built in the 1850's. Very luxurious for its time. They had a beautiful grand staircase with a Victorian bannister. There wer chrystal chandeliers all over the lobby and all in all, it was certainly indicative of the late 1800's.
WE had AFternoon Tea, which consisted of Champagne, tea sandwiches with the crusts cut off, small chocolate and custardy desserts with fruit and scones with raisins and vanilla. These were to be eaten with cream and jams. Scrumptious!
We waddled ourselves back to the train station sporting a sugar high and made our way home.
My hosts are wonderful people and I hope they come to visit me in Florida.
Tomorrow, New Zealand. See you then.
Love,
Kerry
