Photos: Reflection of Lake Matheson and Fox Glacier
Hi everyone! Yesterday was a complete wash and I took advantage of the rain to take a nap! Love to sleep in the rain don't you? The place I was staying was very rustic, with pine walls and alcoves. I got up and made my way to the town, or should I say, the block that comprises the town of Fox Glacier. Not much to do, but I found a great cafe that served thick pumpkin soup with a green salad, and I ate. Later, I hung out in the lodge and was awakened many times during the night by the drumming sound of rain on the roof. I was snug, warm and dry hoping that today would bring clear skies.
At breakfast I met an English couple that was going to hike Fox to the mouth of the glacier and I decided to go along. We waited out the rain in the car and eventually it stopped enough for us to get going. What a great walk! The dense blue ice was on display as was the mountain. We got a bit wet in the stream, but everything dries.
I walked and hung out in "town" till afternoon and then it cleared for a bit and I went to Lake Matheson. The reflection was extraordinary so I took a few photos. The trail went right thru the rainforest, so that was very cool.
I got on the bus just in the nick of time to come to the next set of glaciers, Franz Joseph about 40 minutes away. I am staying in a little motel and the town is TWO blocks long, so I found a grocery and an internet cafe. Tomorrow, I am hoping that it will clear, because I want to take a helicopter up and see the glaciers from the air, then land and walk on it. Keep your fingers crossed.
Love,
Kerry
Well, am playing catch-up today with your blog - but still breath-taking! I am sure you will enjoy the helicopter ride, and I can only imagine what it would be like to set foot on a glacier! Enjoy!
